Eczema...?

Ive had eczema since i was just a few years old and ive been in fairly good control of it all, using creams etc to keep it moisturized etc...

But recently its started flaring up quite badly on the inside part of my elbow (where i normally get it). im still in control of my scratching in the day time and use aqueous cream to stop it itching..

The problem is, i scratch it in my sleep...meaning i cant control myself from scratching it...this seems to put all of my willpower in the daytime not scratching it to waste..

Anyone got any tips on how i can not scratch my arms in my sleep?

I've e same problem since childhood days too. its common for ppl staying in tropical area to have eczema... I resides in SGP by the way...

A few tips to reduce itch:
1) use diprocel cream (gradually i found tt it itch less often)
2) take Atrax (an anti itch pill - not immediately felt but usually next day u dun feel itchy at all)
3) take a flu tablet pill (the yellow colour type) - i was told that it has the same effects as Atrax.

1 & 2 requires a doctor's prescription while 3 can be bought over the counter at pharmacies.

when it itch real bad i will take 2 or 3 option. it works for me and i seldom has itchy "attacks" now. maybe once a year or something? and every "attach" is mild as compared to my childhood days.

Please consult a doctor! what works for me might not work for others! I went to National Skin Centre to have a specialist's opinion before, for your info.

As for tips to prevent u from scratching during sleep - wear long sleeve (make sure its loose / not thick material so that you can loose heat easily) sleeping in air con room might help cos heat is the main cause for eczema attacks. having a cold shower before sleep helps too! In short - avoid and reduce HEAT! (put ice packs on ur arms when u sleep to numb ur hand maybe?)

oh, and stop scratching!!! slap or beat ur skin instead!!!
=]

=> just to add on after i see Minx's answer:
i do not have constipation problems often lol!

Lifesaver !!!!!!!!!!!!
If you have eczema, I strongly encourage you to try this product. I had bad case of eczema on my neck and it was getting me really depressed because I couldnt really cover it up. I found out about this product on [...]. I just typed eczema medications and this was one of the things that came up with great reviews so I decided to try it. My eczema was under control in 2 days. I couldnt believe it! Only regret is if i should have known about this product earlier, I would have less scar on my neck. Please try it and stop your suffering. =)
Great Stuff!
I and my sons have eczema. We have been to the doctors and had prescribed treatments that don't even come close to what this product was able to do. I short it makes the condition almost non-existent. I apply a small amount to the affected area two times a day and our skin is so clear and soft. I am totally sold on this product.
Great product - the only thing that has come close to helping me!
I love the Dermarest Eczema Medicated Lotion. I have been using it for about a year or so now, and I am so glad I found it. I have tried everything from aquafor to udderly beautiful cream to gold bond and any other lotion you can think of. This product is the only thing that has come close to helping me. It definitely helps relieve the itching sensation from eczema and it has really really helped my skin look better as well. It is not perfect, but it is so much better than it used to be! I always used to wake up scratching my legs in the middle of the night and would end up bleeding from doing it so often and hard, and now I don't have that problem anymore! Yay! It is a bit on the spendy side, but it is definitely worth it to me.

No results
I had high hopes for this medicine. i have tried everything from steriods to change in diet to this and this worked just as well as my other options, not good! i have used it for about 3 weeks with absolutely NO change what so ever. I am very disappointed
Loma Lux Homeopathic Medicine
It seems to work since the eczema on my lower legs got better when I took the Loma Lux tablets (2 a day in the morning) and came back again when I stopped. It got better again when I started it again.
waste of money
i purchased this because i have 2 problems. 1. rashes(hives) and 2. eczema. after using it for 2-3 weeks i noticed that it was doing nothing and i was suppose to have notice less itching on the first time i have taken it. so i decided to test drive this product. i took 2 pills and i placed each pill in a cup of water, one cup with hot water and the other with cold water. it turns out that the pill is dissolved in 40-50min in hot water and more than 1hr. 30min in cold water. as a result, the ingredients of this product were not being released during this time. it was like forming in different shapes like if the pill would come apart but you would see this in one hour. after i acknowledge this, i just threw the remaining in the garbage. taking this was like taking nothing..... dont waste your money on this. and btw if you read the people who rated this 4-5 stars you'll notice that they have only rated 1-10 items on amazon and have no proof of purchase under their name. which is why i bought it in the first place. sometimes we take risks because of our desperate needs but only one will suffer so beware.
Worked for me
My eczema is not completely gone but after one full bottle it did decrease dramatically. I had eczema on every part of my body and now it's just on my lower legs and right hand. It's not a magical cure but it really helped.
No effect at all.
We purchased this product to try to somewhat alleviate my husband's bouts with eczema. It had virtually no beneficial effect whatsoever. He took it as directed and was broken out the entire time he took it. Made no difference. May as well have been jelly beans. Save your money.

Product Description

Rid yourself of eczema forever! Based on new research, this book has everything the millions of eczema sufferers need to know to free themselves from unbearable itching and unsightly rashes.

Eczema–Free For Life contains the latest medical information about the cause, symptoms, and treatments of eczema and is written both for adults with eczema and the parents of children with eczema. In addition to the most recent medical research, Dr. Nasir offers guidance for home care and ways to cope with the psychological impact of the disorder. None of the popular books about eczema currently on the market is written by a practicing dermatologist and none is based on up–to–date science. New research has conclusively demonstrated that eczema is the result of the abnormal development of some twenty genes responsible for controlling how the skin interacts with the environment. When the skin's barrier function fails, irritants pass through to underlying tissue and trigger the itchy rash that characterizes eczema. Dr. Nasir will explain new and more powerful treatments that are being developed based on these new discoveries as well as point out reliable holistic remedies that have worked for centuries.

Eczema- Free For Life- NOT!
This book is informative, but the title is not accurate. Inside this book the authors explain how an eczema sufferer can try to minimize eczema flare ups, which is important, yet they do not have the information to make someone free of eczema for life.
WHAT? Eczema has nothing to do with what you eat?!!!!!
Although I didn't read this book, I just read Mama.x's review above where she said that the author believes that eczema has nothing to do with diet. Hasn't the author ever heard of Celiacs disease or food allergy? Based on that alone I would urge people NOT TO BUY THIS BOOK because the individual has no clue what they're talking about. I suffered from mild to severe eczema off and on for most of my life. Just recent I discovered that by cutting out wheat and any foods with gluten my eczema has been under control. Every now and then I have a flair up if I eat something not realizing that it contains gluten and it takes a few weeks to get back to normal. I would encourage anybody who has struggled with this to have their doctor look into Celiacs or food allergy. Prednisone helped to mask the symptoms while I cleanse my system of gluten.
Good book on Eczeme
While this was a good book and it did provide some informative information on Eczema. I feel the author spent more time describing the history and "technicalities" behind eczema rather than how to "Live Eczema Free" as the title states. (Which is mis-leading btw). Alot of the information I already knew but some things I didnt which were helpful
be cautious when buying this book
I've had eczema since I was born. At times in my life it has become severe and others it has been calmer, but reguardless always there. There really is no "eczema free", so I wish the title was not so misleading. Anyone who has had eczema for many years knows that it is and will always be a problem for them. Worring about what fabrics your wearing, making sure that everything you use is fragrance free for sensitive skin, not being able to truly ever enjoy a shower or bath or swimming, yes and worring about what you eat and drink for me its no acids or wheat, and spending thousands of dollars on dermatologists and creams and lotions and the list goes on and on...
I dont believe that most of the medicines a dematogist gives you work. I've tried many oral steroids (which leads to weight gain and a quick fix that doesnt last long), steroid and cortizone creams(which are costly and after years of using no longer work and simply leave scars),Even the all natural creams have not worked for me.Recently I even resorted to try a medicine that significantly lower your immune system. Horrible mistake! Sure my skin got better for a little while but I had a vast of other problems that occured shortly following this medicine and eventually my skin of course worsened. I started having terrible bladder problems, lumps in my [...] that had to be removed, fatigue, staff infections that turned into mrsa, all of which I accredit to the lower immune system from the medication.
So to all of you suffering from eczema or dermititis please be aware that there is no ecezma free for life as this book states, as great as that may sound. Please just be aware of that if purchasing this book. Although could be somewhat helpful if new to eczema stress makes eczema worse, and soap does irritate the skin. It is impossible to stop scratching so please understand that if you are around someone with eczema do not nag them about scratching it makes them scratch more, trust me! Please be careful when going to a dermatologist you may waste money on a quick fix that wont last, which seems like what this book offers. Try changing your diet ultimately if you have eczema you also have many allergies try not eating wheat and watching how much acid you consume. If someone has a cure let me know but this book is not it.
Very informative
I learned a lot about the scientific part of eczema and how to combat it whenever possible. It would have been nice to hear the author's opinion on holistic methods or herbal treatments also.

Proven winner
I have dry wrinkled fragile skin, probably from overexposure to sunlight.

I apply it every 4 or 5 days, and it moisturizes and helps reduce the wrinkles.

My dermatologist recommended this product 6 years ago, and I have been a satisfied user even since.
Amlactin
I would have liked to know exactly what the results should look like. I was under the impression that this would lighten the mark on my skin due to sun damage. The product was very hard to find in any type of store. The results were not as good as I had hoped for.
Awesome!!!
AmLactin XL is truly amazing! For the first time, I have finally found a product that does exactly what is expected and more. My skin feels soft, smooth and hydrated. Say goodbye to Keratosis Pilaris. No more bumps on the back of arms and legs. I love this product and I will continue to use it.
Fantastic Results!
I was recommended to use Amlactin XL by my dermatologist as treatment for the KP on my thighs. It never really bothered me before but when I moved to a new location, my KP got worse. Very red bumps = not attractive! I finally broke down and decided to get some. I read plenty of reviews of the different Amlactin products, but since I wanted results I decided to just get the XL that the dermatologist recommended. Oh man am I glad I did!

I have never had such smooth legs in my life. Even though my legs didn't always have red bumps, they did have a bumpy texture from the KP, and I didn't even know how smooth my legs could be. I use it at night after showering, applied to completely dry legs. There is a slight odor right when you apply, but I've found it's completely gone by morning. My husband keeps complimenting how great my legs look and feel!

I'm hooked now -- I'll be a user for life!
Dermatologist Recommended
My dermatologist recommended this product and I could not find it in the stores. After using it, it did soften my skin really well, but it did not shed the callouses on my hands like prescription medicines. I had a different understanding of how this product would work.

A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY
Eczema Force has worked as well for me as the higher priced ointments I have tried over the last 30+ years. I was a little concerned over the small bottle that was delivered but was quite satisfied after realizing how far it would go. The application is directly from the ingenious little insert afixed to the bottle opening which limits the amount of liquid that can be poured. A little goes a long way. I have used both prescription and over the counter preparations for many years and Eczema No More provides as much relief as any I have used.
