What do you think of E.L.F (eyes lips face) cosmetics?

I'm planning on buying a huuuge haul tomorrow, from ELF cosmetics.
I would like to know what you think of the cosmetics. (:
thank you!

& what i'm going to buy [for now]:

1.total face brush
2.eyeshadow, in butternut
3.all over cover stick
4.pressed powder compact
5.concealer

what do youu think? teeell me! <33

1) total face brush- This is amazing, try to go for out that is a big.. firmer, rather than soft. If they have that choice.

2) eyeshadow stays on very good, will most likely stay on all day if you dont poke at it

3) all over cover stick- get a very small brush to apply this, like a very small paint brush [but for makeup], the one I have is white, from ELF also.

4) pressed powder compact, DEFENETLY recommended by me, Im tone 2, and It acctually stays on, and will keep your foundation on under it! a+ (:

5) never tried the concealer, but I''d give it a try, because all of there products are great!

Hope I helped!

  • Illustrates the basics of makeup application

Product Description

In Making Faces, Kevyn Aucoin, North Americas preeminent makeup artist, shares his secrets, explaining not only the basics of makeup application and technique but also how to use those fundamentals (sometimes in unconventional ways) to create a wide range of different looks. Making Faces features step-by-step directions, instructional full-colour sketches, and a gallery of noncelebrity transformations, as well as fabulous images of stars and supermodels as youve never seen them before.Lush and enticing, Making Faces satisfies on many levels: extraordinary photography, surprising makeup looks on A-list celebrities (Julia Roberts, Demi Moore, Courtney Love), and recipes for doing it yourself. ~ Mirabella Kevyn Aucoins new beauty bible is the Genesis, Chronicles, and Revelations of makeup. ~ Allure Kevie isnt a makeup man, hes a magician. He creates an atmosphere of beauty mixed with magic. ~ Cher Kevyns progression of work over the years has elevated makeup to an art form. ~ Tina Turner Kevyn enables each and every one of us to play the character we want to play, be the person we want to be, and most important, feel the best that we can feel about ourselves. ~ Drew Barrymore
The faces that Kevyn Aucoin has made are stellar and luminous: Cher, Tina Turner, Vanessa Williams, and Julia Roberts are but a few of the stars in Aucoin's galaxy of clientele. More than making do, making up is the art of achieving your own special look, and Aucoin insists that there are no hard and fast rules--except for the obvious ones, such as "Don't put lipstick in your eye."

The first section offers, in his own words, Aucoin's favorite ideas, tricks, and techniques for enhancing, defining, and altering facial features with makeup. You'll learn how to care for your skin, what foundation to use with your skin type, and transformational magic for that central player in the drama of beauty: eyes. Through his gallery of noncelebrity before-and-afters, Aucoin shows clearly how to use his fundamentals to achieve dozens of different looks.

The gorgeous final chapter reads like a list of exotic characters in a play--the Vamp, the Siren, the Diva.... In fact, such celebrities as Isabella Rosselini, Demi Moore, and Nicole Kidman pose as these dramatic, splendidly made-up characters. These sumptuous photographs are accompanied by full-page illustrations listing the "ingredients" required to create these looks as well as simple directions for achieving them. The introduction by the author, at once amusing and endearing ("...trying to conceal the fact that I was a gay, effeminate, hyperactive, adopted child with a serious lisp in southern Louisiana would have been like trying to hide Dolly Parton in a string bikini!"), and Aucoin's commentary throughout, makes Making Faces a unique reference book--beautiful, informative, and personal.

For novices and hobbyists
I bought the book hoping it would teach me how to make creams and lotions from scratch. But what it does is provide you with recipes on how to make your custom-blended product with ready made bases which you have to purchase. So it was not very useful to me.

The information on essential oils is basic and scarce. I feel the recipes could be more sophisticated and in greater number. This book contains mostly kitchen DIY recipes.

All in all a good book purely for beginners.
Disappointing - not from scratch
The recipes assume you are starting with a basic lotion, shampoo or conditioner base. There are no recipes for these bases. Starting from a commercial base takes all of the fun out. There are many other books available that include the basic base recipes as well as the suggested additives. Try "Making Aromatherapy Creams & Lotions" by Donna Maria if you want some serious recipes.
Not from scratch
The title suggests from scratch but as everyone has said so far, lotion recipes suggest you do additives to a lotion base. Nice recipes though.
sparce info on the basic recipes
I bought this book hoping to learn how to make basic skin care products, only to discover that the vast majority of recipes call for a "lotion base" or the like. The book does not give instructions on how to make a "lotion base" and the list of suppliers was pretty grim.
She does seem to have a very keen sense of fragrance combination and the photos are fun but overall it did not provide much useful info about making skin-care products from scratch.
Good book on wanting to learn about cosmetics
Found this book on amazon. Nice information on what goes into cosmetics. However, does not necessarily give information for from-scratch lotions. Did find a nice natural lotion base to use at this site:

DEAR JOHN MOISTERIZER BY BENEFIT
DEAR JOHN MOISTERIZER IS ONE OF THE BEST i HAVE EVER USED, i HAVE BEN USING IT NOW FOR 4 YEARS AND LOVE IT. iTS HARD TO FIND-WHEN i SAW IT ON AMAZON.COM I WAS THRILLED. TLB-FT. MYERS FL
Created Acne
I usually LOVE Benefit products, but NOT this one! Like another reviewer, I had a break out after using Dear John.
My skin is normally clear and the type is "combination". I didn't apply this cream in the "T" zone, either.
I am unable to recommend this product and I won't be buying it again.
Enough moisture without the grease!
It should be known, right off the bat, this product is NOT for people with oily skin, as it is very rich and hydrating. I have skin that is on the drier side, and this stuff works great. I wear it both night and day. The texture of it is pretty thick and rich, but not greasy on my skin.
No increase in breakouts
Two people on here mentioned acne breakouts. I've always had acne prone skin and I breakout no matter what. I did not see an increase in breakouts by using this product and I wasn't using it to magically cure my acne (after all, the product makes no claims about helping acne disappear) but I was using it to keep my skin hydrated and thats exactly what it did. My skin is now much softer and smoother than it originally was. I'd love it if benefit were able to turn this into an acne helper, too, though, because it really is a great product and it could be even better. But if your looking for something to keep the skin hydrated. I'd def recommend Dear John.
Too greasy...
This was a no-go for me. It made me break out REALLY bad. I have never seen my face look so bad as it did after using this product for a couple of days. It smells ok. It's really thick and greasy and if you can't return it, you're probably better off using it on dry skin (e.g. elbows, knees).

Not Quite Everybody
As long as you are below 50, this is OK. She has a section on the Fifties, but it is short and not comparable to the other age cohorts. She also lists 2 products for each group which will do the job. The expensive one ($$$) varies. The much less expensive one ($) is her own product whenever possible.

If you are 50 or older I strongly recommend The Best of Everything After 50. Outstanding and she gives you a range of products from $ to, rarely, Are You Kidding Me ($$$ at least)?

Please don't jump me. After all my screen name is Oldie Reader. I may be old, I am not dead yet.
Look fabulous in 5 minutes!
When it comes to makeup, women want products and techniques that are going to make them look and feel fabulous. Taking an hour in the bathroom to achieve all this fabulousity however, is not an option.

Makeup artist Carmindy, famous for her work on the show What Not to Wear, understands this and has written a book called The 5 Minute Face. Like the title suggests, she demonstrates quick and easy makeup techniques that even the most time pressed woman can use to look pretty and polished in five minutes. Once you have mastered the basic five minute face you can spend a few more minutes trying on some of her other makeup looks, like the slightly more dramatic but still very wearable Holiday face.

In addition to demonstrating the five minute face application techniques she covers a variety of other beauty topics. She discusses everything from shaping your brows to finding the right foundation, makeup as it applies to different age groups and more. All of this insider advice is accompanied by many beautiful photographs.

Of course the thing that really endeared me to this book was the part at the back where she lists both expensive and cheap beauty products for skin care as well as cosmetics.

boring
Her looks are very boring and minimal. I think that anyone is capable of mastering the natural makeup look, which doesn't make Carmindy stand out at all from the Makeup World. She likes to emphasize about highlighting the face like it is a must.

She likes to use flawless models to cut corners because she would have NO IDEA how to take an average person and turn that person in to a gorgeous women, but NOT necessarily caking them in makeup. (This is what Kevyn Aucoin can do!)

So the reason why she takes flawless models is that she thinks they are easy to work with, since they are already GORGEOUS to begin with. Carmindy, this does not make you a talented makeup artist.
Get Kevyn Aucoin's Making Faces instead. You'll easily find inspiration from his book. I love Mr. Aucoin's book - His natural to dramatic looks are glamorous.

Excellent guide
This book is excellent.
Some of the stuff I already knew but others I didn't.
I especially liked the product listings at the back.
Get this book!
These recipes are so tasty! I've always considered myself more of a baker because I couldn't prepare a good dinner at all. Unlike other cookbooks, Pioneer woman makes it so easy by showing you step by step how to cook and prepare everything.. Great for beginners! Also lovely photographs and HUMOR! Get this book!

eBiz Profile: ELF (Eyes, Lips, Face) Cosmetics

The cosmetics industry is difficult to see through the address and in his first launched in June 2004, ELF Cosmetics encountered serious obstacles. Joseph Shamah, CEO, said the company did not launch first as e-commerce company, instead it was a new brand of cosmetics. (ELF stands for eyes, lips, face.)

The company realized it had two choices: to quickly find a national distributor for the product in retail stores - and compete with brands like Cover Girl rich, Revlon and Maybelline, or it could launch its own e-commerce site Web.

Fast-forward five years and ELFCosmetics successfully pushed the retail market, but most of the business is always online sales through the website.
